Using SecureCRT on a Laptop

< Previous | Next >

You can use SecureCRT to connect to central systems, such as Hickory, using a laptop with a network connection.

Note: If you are connecting from an off-campus location, you may need to start a VPN connection first before accessing Hickory. See Virtual Private Network for more information.

Follow the directions at the beginning of this section to obtain, install, and register a copy of SecureCRT for your laptop. Then, follow the instructions for creating and configuring a host session.

Once SecureCRT is set up on your laptop, you can use it just like you would on a desktop computer, with one exception. The VT100 [PF] keys, [PF1-PF4], are mapped to the [F1-F4] keys above the numbers on your keyboard because some laptops do not have numeric keypads. Press [F1] when you need to use [PF1], [F2] for [PF2], [F3] for [PF3], and [F4] for [PF4].

Note: If you want to create shortcuts on your laptop, do not map your shortcuts to the [F1-F4] keys because you will lose your [PF] key functionality.
