Mapping Keys in SecureCRT

< Previous | Next >

Mapping keyboard keys or key combinations to commonly entered words or phrases, such as report names, can save you typing time.

  1. Click the Keymap Editor icon on the Icon Tool bar (fourth from right). The Keymap Editor window will appear.
  2. Click the Map a Key button. A Map Key dialog box will appear with instructions.
  3. Using your keyboard, press the key (e.g., F10), or key combination (e.g., Ctrl+F) that you would like to map. The Map Selected Key window will appear.

Note: Do not map regularly-used keys, such as the alphabet/number keys or the F1-F4 function keys, because doing so will make them unusable for their intended purpose.
  4. From the Function menu, select Send String from the drop-down list.
  5. In the Send String field, enter a word or phrase to which you would like to map the key (e.g., FAS Transactions).
  6. Click OK. The Keymap Editor window will re-appear.
  7. Click the Save button.
  8. Repeat steps 2-7 to map additional keys.
  9. Click the Close button. The VMS session window will re-appear.
