Mac OS X includes many of the newer printer drivers, so you may not have to
install the drivers that are usually provided via CD from your printer's
vendor. If you are connecting a printer directly to your Macintosh via the USB
port:
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions to set up the printer.
- Shut down your computer and turn off the printer.
- Plug the printer into your computer's USB port.
- Turn the printer on, then start up your computer.
If your computer is running Mac OS X version 10.3 or later, the printer will
automatically be recognized and added to your Printer List.
To verify this in Mac OS X 10.5.x:
- Click on the Apple icon in the upper-left corner, then
select System Preferences.
- Click Print & Fax.
- You will see a list of all the printers you have installed on your
computer.
To verify this in Mac OS X 10.3.x or 10.4.x:
- Select Utilities from the Go menu.
- Double-click the Printer Setup Utility file.
- You will see a list of all the printers you have installed on your
computer.
If your computer is running Mac OS X 10.5.x and you do not see the
printer:
- While in the Print & Fax section, click the
+ sign on the left side to add the printer.
- Select to highlight the printer in the Printer Name field,
click the arrows beside the Print Using field, and select your
printer from the list.
- Click Add to create the printer.
If your computer is running Mac OS X 10.3.x or 10.4.x and you do not
see the printer:
- Click the Add button to add the printer.
- Select how you want your computer to communicate with this printer. You
would normally select USB; however, if you have an Epson
printer, select Epson USB.
- The printer should automatically be recognized. Once you see
information on your printer, click the Add button to add your
printer.
- Close the Printer List window.
If you still do not see the printer in the Printer List, you may need to
download the latest printer driver from the manufacturer's Web site. For more
information, see
