How Do I Install the GreenPrint (Pharos) Software on My Macintosh?

The Pharos software has two components that need to be installed, PopUp and Notify. First install and configure the PopUp component, then the Notify component.

Installing and Configuring GreenPrint for Mac OS X 10.4 and higher

  • Download GreenPrintOSX.zip to your desktop from the GreenPrint for Mac OS X Web page.
  • Open the folder you downloaded called GreenPrint8 and double-click the Popup.dmg file.
  • Double-click the Popup.pkg file.
  • The installer's welcome message appears. Click Continue.
  • The installer's ReadMe appears. Read it, then click Continue.
  • Select your hard drive as the destination volume, then click Continue.
  • Click Install (or Upgrade). The installer automatically installs the PopUp application.
  • You may have to authenticate yourself as an administrator on your computer. Enter the administrator username and password (this is the account you use to log in to your computer), then click OK.
  • If prompted, enter oslo.dartmouth.edu in the Server Address field. Leave the default values in all other fields. Click Continue.
  • After the Popup installation, the message The software was successfully installed should appear. Click Close.

Note: If you use a firewall on your computer, or for your connection to the Internet, ports 515 and 28203 need to be open. These are the default ports for GreenPrint.

Installing and Configuring PopUp for Mac OS X 10.3.9

  • From the GreenPrint for Mac OS X Web page, download GreenPrintOSX10.3.zip to your desktop.
  • Open the folder you downloaded called GreenPrintOSX and double-click the Popup.dmg file.
  • Double-click the Popup.pkg file.
  • The installer's welcome message appears. Click Continue.
  • The installer's ReadMe appears. Read it, then click Continue.
  • Select your hard drive as the destination volume, then click Continue.
  • Click Install (or Upgrade). The installer automatically installs the PopUp application.
  • You may have to authenticate yourself as an administrator on your computer. Enter the administrator username and password (this is the account you use to log in to your computer), then click OK.
  • Enter oslo.dartmouth.edu in the Server Address field. Leave the default values in all other fields. Click Continue.
  • Leave the default value in the Client Port field. Click Continue.
  • Ensure Popup is enabled (default value). The Enable/Disable button should read Disable. If it doesn't, click on the Enable radio button, then click Continue.
  • The Popup Setup Assistant will display the Pharos Popup Client information. Verify that the information is correct, then click Done.
  • After the Popup installation, the message The software was successfully installed should appear. Click Close.

Note: If you use a firewall on your computer, or for your connection to the Internet, Ports 28203 and 28212 need to be open. These are the default ports for GreenPrint.

Installing and Configuring PopUp for Mac OS X 10.2

  • From the GreenPrint for Mac OS X Web page, download GreenPrintOSX.sit to your desktop. (Note: You must have StuffIt Expander installed on your computer. If you are running Mac OS 10.3 or earlier, it should already be on your computer. If you are running Mac OS 10.4, you can download a copy from the StuffIt Expander Web page.)
  • Open the folder you downloaded called GreenPrintOSX and double-click the Popup.dmg file.
  • Double-click the Popup.mpkg file.
  • You will have to authenticate yourself as an administrator. Enter the administrator username and password (this should be the account you use to log in to your computer), then click OK.
  • The installer's welcome message appears. Click Continue.
  • The installer's ReadMe appears. Read it, then click Continue.
  • Select your hard drive as the destination volume, then click Continue.
  • Click Install (or Upgrade). The installer automatically installs the PopUp application.
  • Enter oslo.dartmouth.edu in the Server Address field. Leave the default values in all other fields. Click Continue.
  • Leave the default value in the Client Port Number field. Click Continue.
  • Ensure Popup is enabled (default value). The Enable/Disable button should read Disable. If it doesn't, click on the Enable radio button, then click Continue.
  • The Popup Setup Assistant will display the Pharos Popup Client information. Verify the information is correct, then click Done.
  • After the Popup installation, the message The software was successfully installed should appear. Click Close.

Installing and Configuring Notify

  • From the GreenPrintOSX folder, double-click Notify.dmg, then double-click Notify.mpkg.
  • You will have to authenticate yourself as an administrator. Enter the administrator username and password (this should be the account you use to log in to your computer), then click OK.
  • The installer's welcome message appears. Click Continue.
  • The installer's ReadMe appears. Read it, then click Continue.
  • Select your hard drive as the destination volume, then click Continue.
  • Click Install (or Upgrade). The installer automatically installs the Notify application.
  • Enter oslo.dartmouth.edu in the Server Address field. Leave the default values in all other fields. Click Continue.
  • Ensure Notify is enabled (default value). The Enable/disable button should read Disable. If it doesn't, click on the Enable radio button, then click Continue.
  • The Notify Setup Assistant will display the Pharos Notify Client Database Server details. Verify the information is correct, then click Done.
  • After the Notify installation, a message with The software was successfully installed should appear. Click Close.

Note: If you use a firewall on your computer, or for your connection to the Internet, Port 2355 needs to be open. This is the default port for GreenPrint.
