Which FTP File Server Should I Use to Transfer Files Between Computers at Dartmouth?

< Previous | Next >

The server named ftplocal.dartmouth.edu provides a directory for the exchange of files between computers that are located on the Dartmouth campus. Users can deposit files in the folder named transfer, making that file available for another user on campus. Files in the transfer folder are visible to other users and are available for download to anyone. Consequently, uploaded files should not contain sensitive information, unless they are encrypted.

Once files are uploaded to the server, they will remain available for two days, then automatically deleted.

Peter Kiewit Computing Services (PKCS) tries to keep several GBs of space available for anonymous FTP transfers, but the exact amount of free space is determined by how much is already in use. It is recommended that no single file uploaded to the space be larger than 1 GB.

If you have any questions, contact the IT Service Desk (Help Desk) at 646-2999 and select from the options provided, send electronic mail to help@dartmouth.edu, or call your department's IT support office.
