Installing Thunderbird on Windows Computers

  • Go to the Thunderbird download page. Click on the Free Download link to download Thunderbird Setup to your computer.
  • Double-click the Thunderbird Setup icon and then click Run to start the Thunderbird program installation.
  • The Welcome to Mozilla Thunderbird window will appear. Click Next.
  • Click I Accept the terms of the License Agreement, then click Next.
  • In  the Setup Type window, select Standard, then click Next.
  • In the Select Components window, select Next.
  • When the installation is done, click Finish. The Thunderbird program will launch automatically.
  • The Import Wizard window may appear.
    • If you were previously using an e-mail program such as Eudora or Outlook, and you want to import those settings to Thunderbird, select the appropriate option.
    • If this is a new setup and you are not using an e-mail program other than BlitzMail, select Don't import anything.
    • Click Next.
  • When the setup is complete, Thunderbird will launch the New Account Wizard. For instructions on configuring Thunderbird on a Windows computer, see Configuring Thunderbird for Windows

Note: If you have the Sygate firewall installed on your computer, you may see a Sygate Security Agent pop up regarding Mozilla Thunderbird. Click in the Remember my answer check box, then click Yes. This will allow the program to access the network.

If you have Symantec AntiVirus installed on your computer, in the Configure menu, the Internet E-mail Auto-Protect setting should be set to enabled. In the File Types section, make sure all types is selected.
