It is important to change your BlitzMail password from the default
to something hard for others to guess. Keep your password a secret - don't
reveal it to your best friend, family members, or supervisors. It is your key
to privacy for your electronic mail and access to other resources on the
Dartmouth network (Kerberos tickets, Oracle Calendar
account access, etc.).
BlitzMail does not allow you to change your password to something
that doesn't follow a few important rules, such as the length it must be or the
use of words that can be found in a dictionary. The rules for valid passwords
are available on the
DND Name and Password Policy Web page.
Note: The BlitzMail program allows you to
change your DND password to something longer than eight characters, but
this is not recommended as several systems on campus are limited to an
eight-character maximum. If your logon attempt fails to work for whatever
system you are working with, and your password is longer than eight
characters, try again with only the first eight characters.
To change your password:
- Log in to your BlitzMail account.
- If you are using a Windows computer, select Change
Password from the BlitzMail menu.
- If you are using a Macintosh computer, select Edit DND
Entry from the BlitzMail menu, then click the
Change Password button.
- Enter your current password in the Current Password field
(the bullets indicate the characters of your password without revealing what
those characters are).
- Enter your new BlitzMail password in the New
Password field. Confirm your new password by entering it a second time
in the New Password (again) field. Click the Change
Now or OK button.
- Close the Edit DND Entry window.
Your password change will be synchronized with other systems on campus
within 15 to 20 minutes after you change it in BlitzMail. If you have
any questions or problems with changing your password, please contact the
Computing Help Desk at 646-2999 and select from the options provided, send
electronic mail to help@dartmouth.edu,
or call your department's
computing support office.
