Filtering Messages

Within BlitzMail there are two ways in which you can automatically filter out unwanted e-mail. One is to have the central mail servers deliver the e-mail that is marked as spam automatically into a folder you've created specially for spam. The other is to create a personal spam filter so that messages from specific addresses and sent to you will automatically go into your spam folder.

For information on having the e-mail servers filter spam for your account, see SpamAssassin.

To create your own personal spam filter, first follow the steps for setting up your account for SpamAssassin.

Second, within BlitzMail, create a personal mailing list called *BLACKLIST*. The list must be spelled exactly like this, including the asterisks and the letters all in uppercase.

Finally, add the e-mail addresses for any e-mail sent to you that you want to automatically go into your spam folder to the *BLACKLIST* mailing list. Once you save an address on this list, any messages from those addresses will no longer come into your InBox.

It is ijmportant to note that the BLACKLIST feature only affects e-mail sent to your Dartmouth.edu account; not any other accounts.
