The first time you sign on to BlitzMail, enter your first
name, middle initial, and last name (see illustration
below). (Sometimes a nickname or abbreviated name is enough, but your full
name will always work.)
Signing On
On a Windows computer, BlitzMail remembers the name of the last
person who successfully logged into a BlitzMail account from that
computer. If you are the only one using BlitzMail on your
computer, you won't have to enter your name every time.
On a Macintosh computer running Mac OS X, BlitzMail defaults to the
name of the user who is logged into the computer.
Select the site of your BlitzMail account (i.e., Dartmouth
College) from the pop-up menu. Your selection will be remembered,
so you do not have to change the setting every time you sign on.

Getting Help
If your BlitzMail password does not work, or if you have forgotten
it, call the Computing Help Desk at 646-2999 and select from the options
provided or contact your department's
computing support office. In order to protect your privacy, you will
be asked to verify your identity with a photo ID, and then you will be assisted
with changing your password.
The Blitz Window
When you have successfully signed on to your BlitzMail account, you
will see a vertical window labeled "Blitz" (shown at right) that contains icons
on the left of the screen. These icons represent various functions
available in BlitzMail.
Configuring Notify
Notify is a utility that works with the BlitzMail program
to notify you when you have received new e-mail or Bulletins. When you start
your computer, Notify registers your name with the e-mail and Bulletin
systems (known as "servers"). Notify also allows more than one
user to receive notification of e-mail or Bulletins at a single computer.
The first time you use BlitzMail with Notify, you will
want to record your name in the Notify utility. Once recorded,
you will not have to go through the following process every time you use
BlitzMail.
Mac OS X Users
Select Applications from the Go menu, then
open the BlitzMail folder. Open the Notify Settings
application.
In the Notify Settings window, click the Add Name button
and enter your name and password in the box
that appears (see illustration below); this should be identical to the name and
password you use for BlitzMail. Be sure the site is set to
Dartmouth College.

Once you have added your name and clicked OK, it should
appear in the box labeled Always listen for:

To control the types of e-mail and Bulletin notifications you will receive,
click the BlitzMail and Bulletins icons, then
click the boxes (an X will appear) to select the types of notifications you
would prefer.
Windows Users
In Windows, select Start, then
BlitzMail. (Depending on how your computer is set up, you
may need to select Programs, then BlitzMail
folder.) Click Notify.
A dialog box will appear. Click the Add Name button
and enter your name and password; this should
be identical to the name and password you use for BlitzMail. Be
sure the site is set to Dartmouth College. Once you have
added your name and clicked OK, it should appear in the box
labeled Always listen for:.
To control the types of e-mail and Bulletin notifications you will receive,
click the BlitzMail and Bulletins icons, then
click the boxes (an X will appear) to select the types of notifications you
would prefer.
Close the Notify window and save the changes. From then on, you will be
notified when new e-mail or Bulletins arrive. You may change the options
at any time by repeating the steps above.
For more information, contact the Computing Help Desk at 646-2999 and select
from the options provided, send electronic mail to help@dartmouth.edu, or call your
department's
computing support office.
