Restoring Deleted Messages

I Accidentally Deleted a Message(s) That I Need Back. How Can I Have It Restored?

We cannot restore a single message. However, we can restore ALL messages that were in your account at the time a backup was made that are not currently in your account. This includes messages from all your folders.

In addition, e-mail recovery requires that the message(s) meet certain criteria.

  • First, a message must be in your mailbox (any folder including Sent Messages) at least overnight to be able to restore it from a back-up tape. If a message came into your account and you deleted it before the back-up tapes were run that night, then we cannot recover the message(s) for you.
  • You need to know when the messages were deleted or expired from your account. We only keep back-ups of the BlitzMail servers for two weeks. If the message was deleted more than two weeks ago, we cannot recover it for you.

Once your messages are recovered, they will appear in your In Box, even those from other folders, including Sent Messages.

To have a back-up of your BlitzMail account reloaded, please contact the IT Service Desk (Help Desk) at 646-2999 and select from the options provided, send electronic mail to help@dartmouth.edu, or call your department's IT support office. They will need to know when the messages were deleted from your account.
