What Is an SSID?

SSID stands for "Service Set Identifier." It is a name given to a wireless network to uniquely identify it from other wireless networks in the same area. Using a unique name allows people to connect to the correct network when more than one option exists in a single location.

When connecting to a wireless network or configuring a wireless network card, you will be prompted for an SSID.
