Security education raises user awareness of security issues, and gives Dartmouth community members the tools and information they need to practice safe computing. During the past several years, we have:
- Created the Safe Computing at Dartmouth Web site, which provides users with information on threats, defenses, and where to get assistance.
- Met with many departments across campus to talk about the initiative and to get feedback on how the initiative will affect them.
- Met with many departments across campus to talk about confidential or sensitive data that may be located on desktop or laptop computers and how best to safeguard that data.
- Held security lunches for staff and faculty, and security seminars for students.
- Created the Safe Computing RSS feed, from which users can get periodic safe computing announcements. Users can join at the Dartmouth Safe Computing Announcements list Web page.
- Created the Cyber Security Initiative group that consists of faculty and graduate students from the Computer Science and Engineering departments, undergraduate students, and Computing Services staff.
In addition, academic departments on campus are offering computer security courses. See the Computer Science Course 38 Web site for additional information.
