Security Tools Available for the Desktop

Dartmouth makes several tools available to members of the Dartmouth community to help them protect their computers. These include:

Additional things you can do to help protect your computer include:

  • Download and install operating system upgrades in a timely manner; see Upgrading Your Operating System.
  • Download and install application updates in a timely manner. Most modern applications have a built in option to check for updates automatically.

In addition, Dartmouth has several tools constantly monitoring the network for any unusual activity that might indicate a security breach. If these tools determine that your computer is acting strangely they will automatically block it from accessing the network so that it cannot compromise other machines. If this happens to you, contact the IT Service Desk (Help Desk) at 646-2999 and select from the options provided, send electronic mail to department's IT support office for assistance.
