When you try to run the eToken Properties application after installing the Aladdin eToken Runtime Environment, a "Failed to load etoken.dll" error may occur. This is usually caused by a Windows Services error.
- Windows XP and Windows Vista users should click Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, then Services.
- Locate the Smart Card service.
- Verify that the Service is Started. Ideally, the startup type should be set to Automatic. If it is not automatic, right-click on the Smart Card services entry, scroll down to Properties, and while in the General tab at the top, select Automatic in the Startup type box.
After verifying that the service is set to Started, check to see if the eToken Properties application still shows an error with the etoken.dll. If it does, there may be a permissions error. If the service fails to start or the problem persists, contact the IT Service Desk (Help Desk) at 646-2999 and select from the options provided, send electronic mail to help@dartmouth.edu, or contact your department's IT support office.
