Your certificate will need to be replaced when it expires. You will use the
same process to replace the certificate as you did when you created the
original certificate.
The new certificate will be generated and saved on your computer. Do not
delete the old (expired) certificate. The old certificate is needed to decrypt
any saved data that was encrypted with this certificate.
Finding the Expiration Date
- eToken – Plug your eToken into a Windows computer that has
the eToken software installed on it. Click Start,
Programs, eToken, then eToken
Properties. Click Advanced from the
Menu bar, then the Certificate & Keys
tab. The Valid to field will show the expiration date of the
certificate on your eToken.
- Firefox 1.5 and 2.0 – Select the
Options option from the Tools menu (on a
Macintosh, use the Preferences option from the
Firefox menu), select Advanced, then select
Security (version 1.5) or Encryption (version
2.0). Click the View Certificates
button. The expiration dates are listed with the certificates.
- Safari 1.2.2 and Later – Open the KeyChain
Access program from the Utilities folder, then select
Certificates. You may need to sort by Kind by clicking on the
Kind menu. Look for the
certificates. Select a particular certificate by clicking
on it. The expiration date of the certificate is then listed in the bottom
half of the KeyChain window when Attributes is selected.
- Netscape 7.x on a Macintosh – From the
Preferences menu, select Privacy &
Security, then Certificates. Click the Manage
Certificates button. The expiration dates are listed with the
certificates.
- Netscape 8.x on Windows – Select
Options from the Tools menu, then
Advanced, then select Certificates.
Click the Manage Certificates button. The expiration dates are
listed with the certificates.
- Netscape 9.x on Windows – Select Options
from the Tools menu, then Advanced, then
select the Encryption tab. Click the View
Certificates button. The expiration dates are listed with the
certificates.
- Internet Explorer – From the Tools menu,
select Internet Options, then
the Content then click Certificates. The
expiration dates are listed with the certificates.
