Remember that previously encrypted data cannot be decrypted if the
certificate used has been deleted!
To delete your private certificate stored on a computer's hard drive, follow
the instructions below. To delete the certificate from an eToken, take your
eToken to your department's computing
support office or the Computing Help Desk and ask them to format it for
you.
Firefox 1.5 or 2.0 on Windows or the Macintosh
Select the Options option from the Tools
menu (or Preferences from the Firefox menu on
Mac OS X) and click on the Advanced icon. Select the
Security tab (version 1.5) or the
Encryption tab (version 2.0), then select
View Certificates. Personal certificates are
listed on the Your certificates tab. Select the
certificate, then click the Delete button.
Netscape 7.x on the Macintosh
Select the Preferences option from the
Edit menu, open the Privacy & Security
category in the left column, then select Certificates. Click
on the Manage Certificates button. Personal certificates are
listed on the Your certificates tab. Select the
certificate, then click the Delete button.
Netscape 8.x on Windows
Select the Options option from the Tools
menu and click on the Advanced panel, then open the
Certificates category. Click on the Manage
Certificates button. Personal certificates are listed on the
Your certificates tab. Select the certificate, then click
the Delete button.
Netscape 9.x on Windows
Select the Options option from the Tools
menu, click on the Advanced panel, then click the
Encryption tab. Click the View
Certificates button. Personal certificates are listed on the
Your certificates tab. Select the
certificate, then click Delete.
Internet Explorer 5.x and Later on Windows
Select Internet Options from the Tools
menu. Select the Content tab, then click the
Certificates button. Personal certificates are listed on the
Personal tab. Select the certificate, then click the
Remove button.
Safari 1.2.2 and Later
On a Max OS X computer, click on the Go menu, open the
Applications folder, then open the Utilities
folder. Run the KeyChain Access utility program. In the
Keychain Access program under the Category All Items
(or you can search in the list for the following), you want to select the
Dartmouth CertAuth1, the public and private key(s)
entitled key from collegeca.dartmouth.edu, and the
<your name> certificate that is entitled with your
name. You can select them as a group or individually, then select
Delete from the Edit menu (or click on the
Delete button in the Tool bar).
