Logging In to UNIX

Logging in to a UNIX account requires you to know your username and password (usernames and passwords cannot contain spaces). Enter your username and password at the login and password prompts when connected to a UNIX machine (sitting at a workstation console or connected via a network protocol such as SSH). For more information, see Connecting to UNIX From a Macintosh and Windows).

The appearance of the login and password prompts will depend on whether you use a console or remote login, and which remote login software you are using.

Common Login Problems

If you are entering your password or login name incorrectly, make sure the [caps lock] key is not on. Remember that everything in UNIX is case sensitive.
