ArcView 3.1 and ARC/INFO 7.2

ArcView and ARC/INFO are GIS (Geographic Information Systems) packages for the analysis of spatial data.

How To Access the Programs

ArcView and ARC/INFO are both available on the central research machine Delta. They can be accessed by logging onto Delta and running either in the text-based mode or a graphic X Windows mode. To get an account on Delta, please fill out an account application.

To use the programs remotely, connect to Delta via X Windows on your local machine. X Windows runs natively on UNIX platforms. X Windows for the Macintosh, eXodus, is available for download from PUBLIC. X Windows for Windows/NT, Reflection, is available for download from ADAMS.

Examples

To startup ArcView, enter arcview at the command line.

To startup ARC/INFO, enter arc at the command line.

Help is available online via each of these packages. Hard copy manuals are also available through the main office of the Geography Department.
