Using SSH to Connect to Research Computing Computers

SSH replaces telnet and provides a secure way to connect to a computer.

To get started using SSH, you will need an SSH client for your PC or Macintosh. Users who want to use Xwindows with SSH should see Connecting Via SSH to Run an X (Graphical) Program.

Windows Users

Windows users can use the Dartmouth supported program SSH Secure Shell.

Macintosh Users

Macintosh users can use the SSH client that comes with Mac OS X. Issue the SSH command in the Terminal window to initiate an SSH connection.

Linux Users

Linux users can use the SSH client that is installed on Linux computers. Issue the SSH command in a terminal window.
