The U.S. Government has changed the effective dates for daylight saving
time, as of this year (2007). Clocks will be set one hour ahead three weeks
earlier in the spring, and will be set back one week later in the fall. Once
this legislation was passed, vendors of calendar systems began updating their
software using these new dates. The update for the Oracle Calendar software was
added to Dartmouth's Oracle Calendar servers in December.
Unfortunately, any events that were placed on a calendar prior to the
software being updated for the weeks that used to be standard time, but are now
daylight saving time, will appear one hour off from what they should be. For
2007, the effected weeks are those beginning on March 12, March 19, March 26,
and October 29. The only way to correct the problem is for people to open each
event and change the time. We cannot globally make this change because we have
no way of knowing which events are at the wrong time and which are not.
Please review your calendar and any calendars you manage for the four weeks
noted above – plus the corresponding four weeks for future years if there are
scheduled events – and correct the meeting times.
Remember that only the owner of an event can move the meeting; people who
were invited to the meeting but didn't actually schedule it cannot move it. You
can see who owns a meeting by double-clicking on the meeting to open it, then
looking at the Proposed by field that appears at the top of
the Edit Meeting window.
Below is a calendar for March 5, 2007 - the last Monday prior to the time
change. Notice the time of the Academic Consulting Meeting on the calendar.
This is a meeting that occurs every Monday at 1:00 p.m.

Below is the same calendar for the next Monday, March 12, 2007 - which is
the first day of the new daylight saving time. Notice that the Academic
Consulting Meeting now appears at 2:00 p.m., even though it was originally
scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The meeting detail, as shown below, appears as if the meeting was moved to
2:00 p.m. for the three new weeks of daylight saving time in the spring. This
happened due to the software; the meeting should still be scheduled for 1:00
p.m. The owner of the meeting, Ellen L. Young, will need to update the meeting
to move the time back to 1:00 p.m. Once this is done, the meeting for all
invitees of this meeting will revert back to 1:00 p.m.
