If you are having problems getting a wireless connection, you may want to
investigate what is between you and the closest wireless access point that
might be interfering with your network connection. The range of an access point
varies depending on what is in the path of the signal being transmitted. While
you may be able to sit on the south end of the green and maintain a strong
signal from an access point located in Baker Tower, you may not be able to get
a signal from another access point that you are located much closer to because
there are two cement walls, a microwave, or a 2.4 GHz telephone between you and
the access point. In addition, the number of people trying to get a network
connection through the same access point may impact your network connection. If
you are having problems, try moving to a different location to see if you can
get a connection.
It's also possible that your computer has been compromised by a computer
virus and has been blocked from the network. To determine if this is the case,
please contact the Computing Help Desk at 646-2999 and select from the options
provided, send electronic mail to help@dartmouth.edu, or call your division's
computing support office.
