All Apple and Dell laptops have power supplies that automatically adjust to voltages between 100 - 240 volts AC and 50 - 85 Hz. Most other Windows computers have the same type of power supplies.
Many countries have their own types of plugs and wall sockets. Purchasing an inexpensive converter plug is the solution, and converter plugs can be obtained quite easily in the United States, as well as in the respective countries. This converter plug is put into the foreign wall socket and provides a United States socket for the laptop. Beware of some "less commonly traveled" countries, or developing countries (for example, Africa and Asia) that still use DC together with AC.
Information about electrical options, adapters, transformers, and converters is available on the Web; see World Electric Power Guide. There is a section about using computers as you travel. It includes a table showing countries, voltages, and plug-adaptor types.
