While at Dartmouth, you had access to the extensive computing environment
provided here. You sent electronic mail (mostly BlitzMail) to your
friends and colleagues, utilized the public printing services, sought advice
from the consultants in Computing Services, and purchased supplies and
equipment at Computer Sales
and Service.
When you leave Dartmouth, you may find yourself missing the computing
advantages you had, because your computing privileges will change once you
leave the College. Some of those privileges, such as purchasing new personal
computer equipment and supplies at educational discounts and getting support
from the consultants in Computing Services, will end the day you leave. Other
privileges, such as your BlitzMail or host computer accounts, will be
discontinued within 30 days of your departure.
In addition, when you leave Dartmouth, you may need to remove some of the
software that is installed on your computer. Software purchased under the terms
of an agreement that is intended only for active Dartmouth faculty, staff, and
students will need to be removed. This includes the corporate edition of
Symantec AntiVirus, the campus agreement version of Microsoft
Office, and the Symantec Security Agent. If you used the
campus agreement to install the Windows Operating System (on your Windows or
Macintosh computer), you will need to remove it from your computer. If you need
assistance, contact the Computing Help
Desk or your department's computing
support office.
A few options are available to you if you want to access the Internet or use
e-mail after you leave Dartmouth. To help you make the transition, we have
outlined our policies and listed some of the computing services that you may
want to investigate. This information is by no means all-inclusive; the best
way you can stay informed about computing services is to read journals,
literature, or various Web pages produced by publishers of computing
information and the manufacturers of computing equipment. Your local library
should be able to assist you in locating sources of computing information. In
addition, your new employer may also be able to help you obtain computing and
network services.
