Introduction to Data Visualization Using OpenDX

This class covers the use of OpenDX for still and animated visualization of data. OpenDX is open source software that runs on UNIX, Macintosh, and Windows/Windows NT computers. It provides an easily learned, flexible 2D and 3D graphics environment. OpenDX is currently available on all public UNIX computers at Dartmouth, or it can be downloaded from the Web at http://www.opendx.org. The first part of the class is an overview of OpenDX and includes examples from engineering and science that illustrate different types of visualizations. The second part covers the use of DX's Visual Program Editor, importing of data into Data Explorer, techniques for visualizing 2D and 3D data, saving and printing images, and producing animations for display on the Web.
