Support for Windows Operating Systems

Information Technology Services provides support for the Windows 7 and Windows 8. However, we do not provide support for Home or Server versions.

Microsoft Agreement

Dartmouth has entered into an agreement with Microsoft that allows Dartmouth faculty, staff, and students to purchase upgrades to the Microsoft operating system on their computer for a significantly reduced price. For faculty and staff, this applies only to the computers that are owned by Dartmouth; not personal purchases. If your Dartmouth-owned computer is running a version of a Microsoft operating system that is not supported, please contact the IT Service Desk at 646-2999, send e-mail to help@dartmouth.edu, or call your department's IT support office to see if your hardware can be upgraded.

In addition, the IT Service Desk or your department's IT support office can tell you about other software that is available for the Windows operating system. For example, Dartmouth has an agreement with Microsoft that allows Dartmouth faculty, staff, and students to purchase some Microsoft products at a significantly reduced price. This includes software that Microsoft has developed for Windows. If you are interested in obtaining the Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) for your Windows computer, please contact The Computer Store at 646-3249 for pricing information.

Currently, Windows 7 Enterprise is the recommended operating system for faculty, staff and students.
