Deleting a Certificate

Remember that data previously encrypted using a certificate cannot be decrypted if the certificate used has been deleted!

To delete your private certificate stored on a computer's hard drive, follow the instructions below. To delete the certificate from an eToken, take your eToken to your department's IT support office or the IT Service Desk and ask them to format it for you.

Firefox 1.5 and later

Select the Options option from the Tools menu and click on the Advanced icon. Select the Security tab (version 1.5) or the Encryption tab (version 2.0 and later), then select View Certificates. Personal certificates are listed on the Your certificates tab. Select the certificate, then click the Delete button.

Netscape 7.x 

Select the Preferences option from the Edit menu, open the Privacy & Security category in the left column, then select Certificates. Click on the Manage Certificates button. Personal certificates are listed on the Your certificates tab. Select the certificate, then click the Delete button.

Netscape 8.x

Select the Options option from the Tools menu and click on the Advanced panel, then open the Certificates category. Click on the Manage Certificates button. Personal certificates are listed on the Your certificates tab. Select the certificate, then click the Delete button.

Netscape 9.x

Select the Options option from the Tools menu, click on the Advanced panel, then click the Encryption tab. Click the View Certificates button. Personal certificates are listed on the Your certificates tab. Select the certificate, then click Delete.

Internet Explorer 6.x and Later

Select Internet Options from the Tools menu. Select the Content tab, then click the Certificates button. Personal certificates are listed on the Personal tab. Select the certificate, then click the Remove button.
