Overall System Status:
SPSS is an application for statistical analysis.
Per our license agreement, SPSS may only be installed on computers owned by Dartmouth, and used for academic teaching and research. It may not be installed on a personally-owned computer. However, all public computers at Dartmouth do have SPSS installed on them and are available as a working option.
For help with an SPSS installation on a Dartmouth-owned computer, members of the Dartmouth community must contact the IT Service Desk (Help Desk) at 646-2999, send e-mail to email@example.com, or call your department's IT support office. Academic Computing staff may download the installers
NEWS July 2014: the license server used to enable SPSS on campus changed. Mac users may download and run a tool fixMacSPSSlicense to update or verify the SPSS configuration. Existing version 20 and 21 installations will continue to run after updating the license server configuration.
Off-Campus Use: The license server is only accessible from on-campus addresses. For use off-campus, you must first run the Dartmouth VPN. There is a known problem with SPSS, VPN, and the Mac OSX Firewall. If the firewall is set to block all incoming connections, SPSS will not be able to get a license. You must select Firewall Options in the Security and Privacy control panel, and uncheck Block All. Then run SPSS and, when prompted, allow java and JavaApplicationStub to accept incoming connections.
