Determine edition of Microsoft Windows

The System control panel in Windows can tell you which edition of Windows (including whether 32 or 64 bit) you are running.  The screenshots are from Windows 7 but other editions are similar.  The procedure itself is the same for Windows XP to the present.
  1. Bring up a Run window by holding down the Windows key (Windows Logo Key- usually next to Alt) and then pressing the R key.
  2. In the text box type: control system
    Run Window
  3. Click OK. The window that appears has all the information you need.
    Windows System Control Panel
  4. Close the System Control Panel.
