Congratulations on your decision to attend Dartmouth! This Web site contains important information about computing at Dartmouth, including the computer ownership requirement for incoming students.

Please read the information on this website very carefully.

Beginning in late May you'll have the opportunity to sign into the computerstore.dartmouth.edu web site to order a computer from Dartmouth. If you're not ordering through us, you must send an e-mail to computer.hotline@dartmouth.edu to let us know what computer you will be bringing so we can ensure it meets the minimum requirements. (We need to know the operating system, processor speed, memory (RAM) and how it will connect to our network.)

Note: Dartmouth offers home deliveries on computers. However, models change frequently and if you ask for home delivery you will receive the current model at the time of your order.

Why Buy at Dartmouth?

You can bring a computer from home, but we encourage you to take a look at what you get when you buy from Dartmouth. Many students who bring a new or used computer from home have difficulty getting them set up for our network, even though the computer appears to meet our specifications. You will avoid these difficulties if you buy from us. We offer Apple and Dell computers at educational prices that run on our network right out of the box. These packages also include all the software, cables, and security software you will need to use our network. And you can have any computer you buy here serviced under warranty, so you won’t have to ship it off campus.

Computer Ownership Requirement

Dartmouth requires all students to own a computer that meets minimum hardware requirements and works on the Dartmouth network.  While you may certainly choose to purchase your computer anywhere, there are some advantages to buying through the Dartmouth Computer Store.  All computers sold through the campus store meet our hardware standards, and are "network ready" out of the box.  In addition, you'll receive the educational discount when buying through the store, and can have warranty service performed on premises.  If you already own a computer, or plan to buy one elsewhere, please check to be sure it meets our minimum supported hardware requirements.
