The Media
Production Group (MPG) provides the Dartmouth College community with
the tools and expertise to produce dynamic, digital media production for
promotional, instructional, documentary use, and to assist faculty who would
like to include the use of original dynamic media as part of their course
curriculum. The following is a list of the services offered by the Media
Production Group. Contact Mike
Murray with questions about media production services.
Curricular Support
Video production staff can provide production services for faculty looking
to use forms of dynamic media in classes as either part of their teaching,
research or as student exercises. (Note: this does not include the video taping
of classes.) In addition, MPG supports students doing thesis and independent
work that utilizes media production as a component, including planning and
hands-on instructions of production and editing equipment. We served as
advisors to students producing longer form projects on subjects that have
brought them all over world.
Special Events
The staff provides professional videotaping and editing services for major
academic and College events, such as conferences, guest lectures, Commencement,
Investitures, Convocation, building dedications, and for training and
promotional purposes.
Digital Editing
Video Production maintains digital video and audio editing suites using Avid
Technology and Apple Final Cut Pro non-linear systems. These systems allow for
the production of materials that can be distributed in traditional tape
formats, as well as through digital publishing channels such as DVD, CD-ROM,
and the Web.
Media Distribution
Production staff has been proactive in developing the College’s capability
to distribute video and audio content over the Internet using streaming
technology.
Consulting
Staff members consult with faculty, students, and administrators on the
purchase of equipment and services available in-house and from local and
regional audio and video producers, satellite uplink facilities, and tape/DVD
duplicators, often coordinating events with outside vendors to meet clients'
needs.
