Enhanced 911

Network Services is part of the state-wide New Hampshire Enhanced 911 System (E-911). The integration of Dartmouth College's PBX into the E-911 System brings Dartmouth into conformity with surrounding communities.

Enhanced 911 gives the College community the benefit of the same enhanced emergency communication features that are available to surrounding areas. Simply put, a call to 911 that is placed from any College telephone provides the emergency dispatch center with certain information automatically. Included are such critical data as the telephone number of the calling party, the building and room from which the call was placed, and the street address of the building where the calling party is located. The E-911 System provides the College with a much greater level of security and has proven itself many times in New Hampshire and the country as a lifesaver.

A Reminder

If you inadvertently dial 911 and reach the emergency dispatcher: Do not hang up.

The appropriate action is to stay on the line and advise the dispatcher that you have simply misdialed and do not have an emergency. If you do hang up, you can expect a call back from the emergency dispatch center asking whether you are in need of emergency services.
