Recommended Apple Macintosh Computers

New Students

Information for incoming students regarding the recommended packages and how to place an order is available on the Class of 2012 Web site.

Academic Work

Before placing an order for a new computer, please check with your department's computing support office or the Student Computing Help Desk. They can help you determine the system that is best suited to your needs. For faculty and students who want to use a Macintosh computer for general academic work, Computing Services recommends the Apple Mac Pro or Apple MacBook Pro.

Administrative Users

Before placing an order for a new computer, please check with your department's computing support person. Many administrative departments have enrolled in the Hardware and Software Standards Program. This program provides new Dell computers running the Windows operating system to staff on a regular basis. If your work requires the use of an Apple computer, please contact your department's computing support office before making a purchase. They can assist you in determining the appropriate computer to meet your business needs.

For staff who want to use a Macintosh computer for general administrative work, Computing Services recommends the Apple Mac Pro or Apple MacBook Pro. These recommendations are suitable for the overwhelming majority of people at Dartmouth. However, your requirements may vary depending on the nature of your work. If you need help determining the appropriate computer that will meet all your needs, please contact the pre-sales staff in Computer Sales and Service or your department's computing support office.
