Mac OS X Upgrades
The Mac OS X operating system is, by default, set to check for updates once a week. When Software Update automatically prompts you, you should install any updates that appear, as they often contain bug fixes. To manually check for updates, select Software Update from the Apple menu, then click Check Now. Install any updates for which you are prompted.
Note: You will need to provide the administrator password for the computer in order to install system updates.
