Setup Wizard for Secure Wireless Networks at Dartmouth

Before you first access the Dartmouth Secure network, you need to configure your computer appropriately. You only need to do this configuration once – unless your user name and/or password changes.

Follow the steps below to configure your computer (Windows 8 users skip to step 4):
  1. Start your web browser and go to https://software.dartmouth.edu/setupWizard/DartmouthSecure/index.html
  2. If you accept the terms of use for this network, place a check in the I accept the terms of the end User License Agreement field, then click Start.
  3. In most cases the setup wizard will automatically detect the operating system for your computer or device and begin the automatic configuration process. In this instance, follow the steps below for your operating system.
  4. If the setup wizard cannot detect the operating system of your device, follow the manual configuration steps found at the bottom of this page to configure your device:

Windows 8 Installation Instructions:

  1. To connect to Dartmouth Secure from a Windows 8 computer, you need to be at a location where your computer can see the Dartmouth Secure wireless network.
  2. From the Start window, type wireless.
  3. From the menu that appears, click Connect to a Network.
  4. Click Dartmouth Secure then Connect.
  5. If you do not want to be prompted for your user name and password each time you connect to the Dartmouth Secure wireless network, place a check in the Connect Automatically field. Having a check in this field means that each time your computer needs a wireless connection, and Dartmouth Secure is the primary wireless network available to it, your computer will automatically join the network. You won't be prompted for your user name and password when connecting to the wireless network unless you've changed your user name and/or password.
  6. When prompted, enter your Dartmouth NetID and password and click OK.

Windows 7 Installation Instructions:

  1. On the next screen, place a check in the Always trust content from the publisher field, then click Run.
  2. If you do not want to be prompted for your user name and password each time you connect to the Dartmouth Secure wireless network, place a check in the Automatically submit credentials field. Having a check in this field means that each time your computer needs a wireless connection, and Dartmouth Secure is the primary wireless network available to it, your computer will automatically join the network. You won't be prompted for your user name and password when connecting to the wireless network unless you've changed your user name and/or password.
  3. In the Username (NetID) field enter your Dartmouth NetID.
  4. In the Password field, enter the same password you use for your Dartmouth.edu e-mail account.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. A Wireless Utility Conflict screen may appear. If this happens, click Continue.
  7. Depending upon how the security on your computer is set, a window may pop up asking if you want to allow this change to your computer. Allow the windows command processor to run.
  8. After a few moments, a window appears letting you know you are Successfully Connected to Dartmouth's wireless network – if you are on campus where that wireless network is available to you. Click Done

Manual Configuration Steps

If your device doesn't match any of the above types or has different options, you may need to manually configure your device for Dartmouth's secure wireless network, rather than running the set up wizard noted above, you may be prompted for the following information into your device's wireless network configuration utility:

  • Network Name (SSID): Dartmouth Secure
  • Security: WPA-2 Enterprise (If not an option, select PEAP, field may be labeled "EAP".)
  • Encryption type: AES (If using PEAP, need to select MSCHAPV2, field may be labeled Phase2.)
  • Username: Your Dartmouth NetID
  • Password: Your Dartmouth.edu password

Note: If using the alternate options noted above and there is a box checked for using or verifying a cert or certificate, uncheck that box first, then connect.
