Prepare for the New Blitz System

Dartmouth's e-mail system is changing! You MUST do several things beforehand for your account to be moved — even if you just forward your e-mail to another address.

5 Steps to a Successful Blitz Transition:

  1. Make sure BlitzMail folder names contain only letters, numbers, and/or spaces — special characters (such as punctuation, diactric marks, hyphens, ampersands, or underscores) can cause problems.
  2. Rename any BlitzMail folders entitled just "notes," just “contacts," or just "drafts." These words with other words ⎯ e.g., "Meeting Notes" ⎯ are fine.
  3. Open each BlitzMail folder (including Inbox, Sent Messages), click "Size" to view largest to smallest e-mails, and remove (store on your own hard drive) any attachments that are greater than 35 MB (35,000K), so that the accompanying messages will migrate.
  4. Watch for e-mail updates for specific times of your migration date. During these times you must log out of any applications that access your BlitzMail account.
  5. Have a mobile device (smartphone, iPad, etc.)? Delete your profile/account from this device before your migration date (watch e-mail updates for specific time). Simply turning off your device isn't sufficient! Set up the device after your migration is complete.

Other information you should know:

  • Existing e-mail messages and mailing lists will be moved to the new Blitz.
  • Once your account moves, use your NetID (Dartmouth ID preceded by the letter "D") to log in to systems instead of your user name.
  • Your new primary Dartmouth e-mail address will be your current e-mail address. Students will have your class year or professional school code attached, e.g., jane.a.doe.13@dartmouth.edu or jane.a.doe.GR@dartmouth.edu.
  • If you currently use the BlitzMail program on your computer, you'll need to use a different program (Outlook 2010/2011, AppleMail, web browser) to access the new Blitz system.
  • If your BlitzMail account is set to forward to another account - either at Dartmouth or elsewhere - that forwarding will be retained when your account transitions to the new Blitz system.
