Configuring Apple Mail (Macintosh) for the Blitz System

Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)

  1. Start Mail. To add a new account for Blitz, click Exchange then Continue.
  2. In the Name field, enter your Full Name (i.e., John A. Doe).
  3. In the email Address field, enter <your NetID>@kiewit.dartmouth.edu (i.e., d12345w@kiewit.dartmouth.edu).
  4. In the Password field, enter your current Dartmouth.edu email account password then click Continue.
  5. You should then see an Account Settings dialog box.  In the Description field, enter a description of this account (e.g. Dartmouth) to differentiate this account from others.
  6. In the User Name field, enter <your NetID>@kiewit.dartmouth.edu (i.e., d12345w@kiewit.dartmouth.edu).
  7. In the Password field, enter your current Dartmouth.edu email account password.
  8. In the Server Address field enter Outlook.Office365.com then click Continue.
  9. You should see an Account Summary dialog box. Click Continue.
  10. Another dialog box will appear. Select Other apps that you would like to use: Contacts; Calendar; Notes; Reminders then click Done. 

 

Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) and 10.8 (Mountain Lion)

  1. Start Mail. If account settings do not come up immediately, click Preferences from the Mail menu, then click Accounts. Remove any unused accounts on the left by highlighting them and then clicking the minus sign at the bottom of the left column. To add a new account for Blitz, click the plus sign at the bottom of the left column.  Enter the following information:
    • Full Name:  Your full name (i.e., John A. Doe)
    • e-mail Address: Your full e-mail address: e.g., John.A.Doe@dartmouth.edu for faculty and staff, or John.A.Doe.15@dartmouth.edu for students
    • Password: Your current Dartmouth.edu e-mail account password
  2. The configuration window will reappear with a user name highlighted by a red arrow to the right and an error message: "Trying to log in to the Exchange 2007 server auto-discover.dartmouth.edu failed. Make sure the e-mail address and user name are correct, then click Continue."
    • Change the User Name to: <your NetID>@kiewit.dartmouth.edu (i.e., d12345w@kiewit.dartmouth.edu).
    • Click here if you need to look up your NetID.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. You should then be given an Account Summary with the information you entered. You can also set up Address Book contacts and iCal calendars by clicking the checkbox next to those items. Click Create.

Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

  1. Start Mail. If account settings do not come up immediately, click Preferences from the Mail menu, then click Accounts. To add a new account for Blitz, click the plus sign at the bottom of the left column.  Enter the following information:
    • Full Name:  Your full name (i.e., John A. Doe)
    • e-mail Address: Your full e-mail address: e.g., John.A.Doe@dartmouth.edu for faculty and staff, or John.A.Doe.15@dartmouth.edu for students
    • Password: Your current Dartmouth.edu e-mail account password

  3. In the next window, in the dropdown menu next to 'Account Type' choose Exchange 2007
    • The server should be filled in for you automatically and should be outlook.office365.com
    • Add a description of the account. This can be anything and serves only to identify it to you.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. You should then be given an Account Summary with the information you entered. You can also set up Address Book contacts and iCal calendars by clicking the checkbox next to those items. Click Create.

Earlier versions of Apple Mail may also ask for the following:

    • Account Type:  Exchange or Exchange 2007 (drop down list)
    • Incoming Server: outlook.office365.com
    • Outgoing Server:  outlook.office365.com
    • Web Access Server: outlook.office365.com
    • Authentication for Outgoing Mail: Required
    • Authentication Type:      UserName/Password
    • Encryption for Authentication:    None/Plain
