Getting Started with Lync

Lync is a tool that allows you to connect with Dartmouth faculty, students and staff in real time in a variety of ways including: instant messaging, computer-to-computer audio, video chat, desktop sharing and more. It is available for Cloud based and On Premises based accounts. Click Here for a video that gives you a conceptual overview.  If you are using Blitz Web Access (BWA) you already have access to the IM capabilities of Lync.  Click here for info on using Lync with BWA.

Lync, with various feature sets depending on the device, is available at no charge for Macintosh computers, Windows computers, iPads, and smart phones running iOS, Windows Phone and Android.  Lync is not available for the BlackBerry.

Information about installing, configuring and using Lync on the Windows and Macintosh platforms is below.  For information about installing and using Lync on your mobile devices see your vendor's app store.

Signing in to Lync

In order to sign in to Lync you will need to provide your Dartmouth credentials, email address/user name and password, using the following configuration: <NetID>@kiewit.dartmouth.edu. For example, if your NetID is F000ds, you would use: F000ds@kiewit.dartmouth.edu when prompted for an email address and/or a user name in Lync. Provide the same password you use to access Blitz.

Installation and Configuration

If you need to install Lync, you will first need to determine if your account is "In the Cloud" or "On Premises"
