Learning Blitz

Instructor-led classes

Computing Services offers a variety of Instructor-led classes to help you understand and use our collaboration tools (e-mail, calendar, contacts, IM, video conferencing) effectively.  Each class is no more than 90 minutes in duration and whether the class is interactive, demo or discussion based, you are sure to get your questions answered and leave with some real gems that will be beneficial to you. The current course offerings are listed below. Be sure to check back from time to time for changes. If you'd like a course that does not appear on the list, send an e-mail to help@dartmouth.edu with your suggestion. Click here for class schedules and sign-up. If you have a laptop, please feel free to bring it to any session.

Intro to Outlook 2011 (Mac)

Designed for the beginner and specifically for a Mac Outlook 2011 user, this class will introduce you to using Outlook 2011 (Mac). This class assumes no prior knowledge of Outlook.  The class will provide an overview of the Outlook 2011 (Mac) user interface, and describe basics of e-mail and calendaring.

Intro to Outlook 2010 (Windows)

Designed for the beginner and specifically for a Windows Outlook 2010 user, this class is designed to introduce you to using Outlook 2010 (Windows). This class assumes no prior knowledge of Outlook.  The class will provide an overview of the Outlook 2010 (Windows) user interface, and describe basics of e-mail and calendaring.

Take Control of your Inbox

Designed for someone who has been using Blitz for a while and would now like to learn how to manage the inbox more effectively. You will learn how to organize using folders, rules, categories, and how to search effectively and more.  This class is platform specific.  The Windows version covers features for Outlook 2010 (Windows).  The Mac version covers Outlook 2011 (Mac). It is designed for for both Cloud and On premises users.

Take Control of your Calendar

Designed for someone who has been using Blitz for a while and would now like to learn how to manage calendars more effectively.  In addition to covering some "best practices" of calendaring, you will learn about delegating, permissions, scheduling options and tools, managing reoccurring meetings, and other options within the calendaring program.  This class is platform specific.  The Windows version covers features for Outlook 2010 (Windows).  The Mac version covers Outlook 2011 (Mac). It is designed for both Cloud and On premises users.

Blitz Tips & Tricks Drop-In Session

This time is dedicated to questions you may have. Please come by, ask us your questions, and we can share shortcuts and commonly asked questions which will make the Blitz system quicker and easier to use. Questions about using any component of the Blitz system and its methods of access including Outlook 2010 (Windows), Outlook 2011 (Mac), Apple Mail, Blitz Web Access (BWA) and Outlook Web Access (OWA) are welcome. Class registration is not required.

Lync Overview

Lync is an instant messaging, desktop sharing, audio conferencing powerhouse that is an integral part of the Blitz system. It's available for on Premises users as well. Whether you use Outlook or not, Lync is available for both Windows and Mac. Some have described it as "a most pleasant surprise!"  This course is designed to introduce Windows and Mac users to Lync and all its' functionality. You will learn how to use Lync for instant messaging (IM), meetings, file sharing, desktop sharing and other features.

Group List Overview

If you need to use a list of people for group discussions or regular announcements, this class is for you.  This course will explain the basics of managing, owning and using the Group lists for both Windows and Mac users. We will cover requesting, managing, and other options available with group lists - in the Blitz, On Premises and Listserv systems.

Blitz/Outlook Web Access (BWA/OWA) Overview

For Mac and Windows users, Blitz/Outlook Web Access (BWA/OWA) is the universal and simplest way for users to access email, calendar and contacts from anywhere with an internet connection.  This workshop will get you familiar with the all of the basic aspects of creating, sending and managing your email using this invaluable tool.

 ListServ Overview

This workshop is for people who e-mail to lists of people, repeatedly. For both Windows and Mac users, this workshop will explain the basics of requesting, managing, owning and using ListServ.
