File Services

Technical  Services currently supports several campus-wide file services. The locally developed Potlatch server provides Macintosh AppleShare service, and allows users to make FTP connections from either Macintosh or Windows desktops. The Wilson NT system provides similar file sharing service for Windows desktop users, and also provides windows print queues for networked printers. The AFS system provides a shared file system for UNIX systems.

Potlatch supports the DartFiles, Locker, Strongbox, and Vault volumes. DartFiles provides software distribution, general file sharing (e.g., help information), and course materials folders with drop folders for assignment submissions. The Locker, Strongbox, and Vault volumes were introduced to provide personal network accessible storage, document backup, and sharing space. They don't support the Windows protocols that would provide an iconic view of the file server on a Windows desktop.
