Authentication and Authorization Services

Authentication and authorization services are key components of more sophisticated directory enabled operating systems and applications. Dartmouth has a centralized LDAP directory that is the hub of our authentication systems. LDAP names/passwords can be used to obtain credentials for Keberos (v4 or v5), and to obtain a PKI software certificate issued by the Dartmouth Certificate Authority. LDAP names/passwords are automatically synchronized to our Active Directory server.

WebAuth, which supports either name/password logins via LDAP or PKI certificates, is used to control access to most of Dartmouth’s limited access Web systems. Some Web applications systems still depend on the current Kerberos 4 infrastructure, along with the SideCar application.
