Supported Hardware and Software

This list includes hardware and software that is officially supported by Peter Kiewit Computing Services consulting staff. We are prepared to assist any Dartmouth student, faculty, or staff member with any of the hardware and software listed below. Choosing something from this list means that Computing Services has experience with and resources available to provide support for the application or piece of hardware.

Members of the Dartmouth community may choose to use applications or hardware not found on this list. In fact, many other items are available for purchase through Computer Sales and Service or are available for download from the Software Downloads page. Other groups on campus may provide support for these applications or for other operating systems.

If the operating system or software you are using or planning to purchase does not appear on this list, please contact the IT Service Desk (Help Desk) at 646-2999 and select from the options provided, send e-mail to help@dartmouth.edu or call your department's IT support office. They may be able to offer alternatives or refer you to a more appropriate group or outside resource for support.

Note: Due to limited resources, we generally do not provide support for software or hardware older than four years, not on the list below, or for non-English versions of operating system installations. We also do not support hardware or software no longer supported by the manufacturer or pre-released (alpha or beta) versions of any computer hardware or software.

The Core Dartmouth Software Downloads that are available on the Computing Web site are a subset of what is available here and supported by Computing Services.

Supported Dial-in Access to the Dartmouth Network

  • We support all Macintosh and Windows built-in dial-up software for supported operating systems dialing into the Dartmouth network.
  • Computing Services does not provide support for home networks or for Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Any questions you may have regarding home networking or setup configurations should be directed to the ISP from which you are purchasing services.
  • Computing Services recommends you confirm an ISPs ability to support your computer model and operating system before you enter into an agreement with them. Be sure they are familiar with the Macintosh, Windows, or UNIX operating system on your computer and can help troubleshoot connectivity problems you may have when trying to connect to their network.

Desktop Applications

Note: Computing Services recommends keeping applications up-to-date, including applying available software updates. Many applications have a way to do this automatically by connecting directly to the vendors Web site. If you have questions, please contact the IT Service Desk at 646-2999 and select from the options provided, send electronic mail to help@dartmouth.edu or call your department's IT support office.
