Public Computer Policies

Computing Services' Consulting Group maintains the hardware and software found on the public computers that are owned by Computing Services. These computers are currently located in Baker/Berry and Kresge Library.

In addition, machines that were commonly referred to as SA BlitzMail terminals, formerly managed by Student Assembly, are now owned by Computing Services. These machines are located in many locations around campus, including Collis, Hopkins Center, Silsby, Rockefeller, Moore, Fairchild, Robinson, Thayer, Alumni Gym, Brace Commons, and Dartmouth Hall. However, the primary purpose of these terminals is to still to check e-mail.

Computers in the Instructional Centers located in Carson Hall, Baker/Berry, and 37 Dewey Field Road are also maintained by the Consulting Group. Other public computers around campus are owned and maintained by other groups.

If you need to report a problem with one of the public computers maintained by Computing Services, request that additional software be added to the images, or inquire about resources that are available, send e-mail to baker-berry.public.computers@dartmouth.edu.

People who would like software added to the public computers need to provide at least two weeks lead time prior to having the software installed on the computers. If it is a commercial product, proof of ownership of the software will need to be provided for the number of machines on which the public cluster image is installed.

Software will not be installed on a single computer for a single user.
