Personal Routers and Switches

Computing Services provides a campus-wide wired network service for use by Dartmouth faculty, students, and staff.

It is understood that there may be situations where an end user provides a router or network switch to expand the available access ports to the network. Users providing expanded access ports through switches, routers, or hubs are responsible for all networking activities that originate from their equipment. If a user provides access ports to the network and illegal activities originate from any of the end-users access ports, the user providing the access ports may be fully responsible for any and all activities that originate from their equipment.

Personal or departmental routers, access switches, or hubs can and do interfere with the Colleges centrally-provided wired network system. Computing Services will take steps to shut down network access provided by personal equipment when that equipment has been deemed to be interfering with the College’s network.
