Records in the DND (which oversees all BlitzMail accounts) are
created using full names only. Each person is entitled to only one account.
Accounts are not created using nicknames or acronyms. Employee and student
names are initially imported from the Human Resources (HRMS) and Registrar
(Banner) databases, respectively. To change your name in the DND, you first
need to change your name with Human Resources or the appropriate Registrar's
Office and then notify help@dartmouth.edu. Names, as they appear
in the DND, must be identical to how they appear in the HRMS or Banner
databases. Department, organizational, and sponsored DND accounts are created
using the appropriate full name up to 32 characters, including spaces.
E-mail addresses are the full name in the DND with periods between each name
followed by @dartmouth.edu. For example,
john.a.doe@dartmouth.edu or
student.assembly@dartmouth.edu. In those instances where there
is more than one person with the same first name, middle initial, and last
name, their middle name will be spelled out as part of their e-mail address
(e.g., john.adam.doe@dartmouth.edu). If the first, middle, and
last names are all identical, then the department or class will be included in
the e-mail address (e.g., john.a.doe.09@dartmouth.edu). No one
can have an e-mail address that could be confused with another person because
of security and privacy concerns. For example, there cannot be someone with an
e-mail address of john.a.doe@dartmouth.edu and another person with
john.adam.doe@dartmouth.edu, because John Adam Doe would also be known as John
A. Doe, and John A. Doe would receive e-mails intended for John Adam Doe.
Anyone who wants to use a nickname for their e-mail address in place of
their full name may do so by entering their nickname in the
Nickname field. However, we only guarantee that e-mail
addressed to your full name will reach you; we do not guarantee that mail
addressed to your nickname will reach you nor that your nickname will remain
unique. Therefore, do not publish anything using your nickname. It may work
today, but there is no assurance that it will work tomorrow. If you are
creating business cards, brochures, Web pages, etc., always include your full
name e-mail address.
