Tutorials on TotalView, a Powerful Software Debugger, Offered by Research Computing on April 21

Research Computing and TotalView Technologies will hold two tutorial sessions on April 21 to introduce TotalView debugger, a powerful software tool that helps teachers and researchers develop reliable, bug-free software for multi-processor and multi-core environments. The first class, Introduction to TotalView Debugger, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. The second, Debugging Parallel Programs Using the TotalView Debugger, is from 1:30 to 3 pm. Both will be held in Haldeman 041 and will be taught by an engineer from Totalview Technologies.

“Dartmouth has had the TotalView license for about 6 months and already research groups in both the physics department and at Thayer Engineering have used it to debug their codes,” says Susan A. Schwarz, research software engineer, in Research Computing. Schwarz, who has helped other scientists at Dartmouth use TotalView to debug their code, is available for advice and assistance. Dartmouth holds a site license for this product specifically for Linux computers and copies are available for use in both teaching and research applications.

For more information on TotalView or help registering for these and other classes, contact Susan A. Schwarz. More information on other classes being offered by Dartmouth Computing Services and the Library this spring can be found at http://www.dartmouth.edu/~workshops
