Ellen Waite-Franzen, Vice President for Information Technology and Chief
Information Officer, has unveiled an updated mission
statement for the Peter Kiewit Computing Services organization. The
statement has been developed over the last six months in a process involving
Computing Services staff.
Ellen stated, "The mission statement is the first step in a major
planning process for Peter Kiewit Computing Services. I am looking forward to
working with Computing Services staff, the Council on Computing, and many
others on developing our long range plan. I also welcome comments from the
Dartmouth community on the following discussion topic."
Dartmouth College has taken a broad based leadership role with technology
since the days of Kemeny, and Dartmouth College has long established itself as
a technology leader in some areas. Most recently, Dartmouth's leadership has
been in communication and network technologies. Dartmouth chose to be one of
the first institutions to have a wireless campus and one of the first to
provide a converged network for voice, data, and video. Dartmouth has also
gained respect for its long term leadership in academic computing support.
In looking to the future, which area(s) do you think Computing Services
should concentrate on and why? Or another way to phrase this, going forward,
where should Dartmouth's technology leadership be emphasized?
