The recent reorganization of Computing Service's Web support group, and an
agreement with the Office of Public Affairs (OPA), will bring new attention to
Dartmouth's Web presence.
Senior Web Producer Jay Collier is the leader of the newly renamed Web
Publishing Services team. He succeeds Bill Brawley, who will be the group's
writer/editor. Brian Hughes, the group's Webmaster, will move to Technical
Services to fulfill that role for the campus.
Other members of the Web Publishing Services group include editorial
specialist Marie Stebbins, veteran Web developer Alan German, and site support
specialist Tim Hozier.
The Web Publishing Services (WPS) group is charged with supporting
Dartmouth's Web publishing needs (curricular needs are supported by Academic
Computing), as well as Computing Services' public communications.
The group will:
- Work with departments to define and implement quality Web
communications.
- Provide Web application development services to meet specialized client
needs.
- Provide public relations and communication services for Computing
Services.
The group will have close ties to the Office of Public Affairs. OPA has
committed to a two-year service agreement with the Web Publishing Services
group to provide leadership for Web-based communications on campus. Vice
President for Public Affairs William Walker will serve as executive
sponsor.
Both OPA and WPS have devoted staff to the venture. The team will continue
to collaborate with colleagues across campus to support the Web sites that,
taken together, comprise the online, public Dartmouth experience.
As part of the agreement with the Office of Public Affairs, WPS will
also:
- Provide Web publishing leadership to bridge the gap between strategic
communication goals and Web production and development.
- Participate in campus groups, such as the Web Oversight Committee,
Communications Committee, Web Producers Group, and Dartmouth Web
Developers.
- Develop recommendations for implementation by campus Web producers,
including written documents, templates, and coaching.
