Departmental Standards Program

The Windows operating system will become the standard for Dartmouth's administrators and staff under a three-year migration plan being led by Computing Services. Faculty and students will not be affected by the decision, and may continue to use either Windows or Apple Mac OS.

The move to Windows will bring better desktop computer support to people who support the College's academic environment, including those who work with financial records, student records, development, purchasing, human resources, and more.

Full text of the January 2002 memo from Barry Scherr and Win Johnson is available; see Mac-to-Windows Migration: Memo.

We'll be adding information about training on Windows systems as it becomes available. To find out more about recommended Dell hardware, please visit the Computer Sales and Service Web site.
