Policy Changes for Sponsored DND Accounts

(June 20, 2001) - Computing Services is implementing several changes to its Sponsored DND Account policies.

Individual Sponsored Accounts

Effective July 1, 2001, there will be two types of Sponsored DND Accounts:

  • A DND account that provides full access to the Dartmouth network and its resources.
  • A DND account with limited privileges (e-mail only).

The changes allow the College to better comply with licensing requirements and improve network security. The difference in accounts also assumes a difference in the level of support we can offer: the owner of an e-mail only account is only eligible for support with BlitzMail-related problems.

Effective July 1, as sponsored accounts are created or renewed, Computing Services will be looking closely at the reasoning for either type of account and reserves final determination of which type of account, if any, is appropriate.

Departmental, Organization, DHMC, Group, and Course Accounts

All Departmental, Organization, DHMC, Group, and Course affiliated accounts will be switched over to limited privilege status — these accounts will not be allowed access to dial-up or DCIS resources. Please use your individual DND account for access to all resources.

New Forms

New forms (dated June 2001) are now available on the Web and on the PUBLIC and Wilson file servers. Please be sure to use the new forms for all new and renewed account requests.
