MacPing is an IP and AppleTalk network testing tool. Just as sonar or radar systems send a signal and wait for an echo, MacPing sends "probe packets" (ICMP or AppleTalk echo packets) into the network and waits for responses from the various devices on the network.
MacPing was originally developed at Dartmouth, and later commercially released by DartWare, LLC. MacPing runs only on Mac OS Classic, so it is now considered a legacy product by DartWare.
